In today’s Special Report, Lillian Cauldwell highlights Chef José Andrés and his team at World Central Kitchen (WCK) — once again demonstrating what true leadership looks like, this time here at home. Known worldwide for feeding communities devastated by war, hurricanes, and natural disasters, World Central Kitchen is now serving furloughed federal workers in Washington, D.C., as the government shutdown enters its 27th day.

Starting October 27, warm meals will be served daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Canal Park in Washington, D.C.’s Navy Yard neighborhood, prepared by WCK’s dedicated Chef Corps partners, including Lebanese Taverna and 2Fifty BBQ. These lunches are free and offered with dignity, continuing as long as the shutdown persists. World Central Kitchen and its Chef Corps partners are coordinating daily service so furloughed workers can count on a warm, dignified meal.
For updates on meal locations and times, follow World Central Kitchen on Facebook, Instagram, or X (formerly Twitter).

👉 This effort is a shining example of how Americans are helping Americans — neighbors, chefs, and volunteers coming together in a time of uncertainty to ensure no one goes hungry. In moments like these, compassion speaks louder than politics.

As Chef Andrés feeds the people, we’re reminded of the promises made to them. The President’s Oath of Office is more than a ceremonial phrase — it’s a solemn covenant to protect, serve, and uphold the Constitution. Moments like this reveal how far leadership can drift from that sacred duty. In this moment, World Central Kitchen exemplifies leadership through service.

Let’s also recall a defining moment in American history: George Washington, when urged by some of the signers of the Declaration to accept kingship, refused. He chose service over power. That’s the legacy we’re meant to carry forward — not crowns, but care.

👉 Share this story to help spread awareness of how compassion and service still unite us during difficult times.
📌 Together, we can remind others that leadership begins with care.
