Print Day in May has grown into something truly special. What started as a local event is now a worldwide celebration that brings people together through creativity and connection. In this delightful conversation, Betsy Wurzel welcomes back Robynn Smith to share how Print Day in May became a global event reaching all 50 states and more than 70 countries—and why anyone can participate.

What is Print Day in May?

Print Day in May® is a free global printmaking event held on the first Saturday in May. People create prints wherever they are—at home, in studios, classrooms, or even in their backyard—and share them online. You do not need to be an artist to join.

This is what makes Print Day in May stand out—it is simple, welcoming, and open to everyone. You don’t need experience. You don’t need special tools. You just need the willingness to create.

Robynn shares how Print Day in May began in 2007 in the Monterey area and has continued to grow year after year. Today, participants gather in homes, studios, schools, and community spaces to create and share their prints using social media.

Participants are encouraged to share their prints on social media using the Print Day in May hashtag and this year’s event takes place on May 2, 2026, and once again invites the world to take part.

Robynn will be in New Zealand at the Printopia Festival, where she will be a keynote speaker and teach a monotype workshop.

What really stood out in this conversation is how this event brings people together.

  • Families can create together.
    Youth groups can join in.
Places of worship and assisted living communities can participate.

It becomes more than making art—it becomes a shared experience that connects people across generations and cultures.

One of the most touching moments shared was when Robynn talked about her mother creating a print for the event.

It’s a simple story, but it captures the heart of Print Day in May—creativity, connection, and meaningful moments that stay with you.

Betsy shares that Print Day in May is a wonderful opportunity for anyone looking to do something creative, meaningful, and fun. It’s a chance to step away from the everyday routine and be part of something global while doing something simple and enjoyable.

Sometimes the simplest acts, like creating and sharing art, can bring people together in powerful ways.

Why It Matters

In a world where connection can feel distant, Print Day in May offers a way for people everywhere to come together through creativity. It’s a reminder that we are more alike than different—and that shared experiences can unite us across cultures and generations.
