In the initial episodes of “State of Current Affairs,” hosts Lillian S Cauldwell and Viki Esther Chang discuss pressing global issues impacting Earth’s survival. Ms. Chang began the conversation by addressing various pollution sources, including landfills, ocean pollution from plastics, medical waste, chemicals, illicit drugs, and garbage that endangers sea life. She highlighted the visible debris orbiting Earth from astronaut activities, landfills contaminating soil and water, abandoned vehicles, and other detritus of civilization without proper disposal.
The program also touched on the grave issue of nuclear waste on Indigenous lands, raising concerns about leaks and human exposure. The state of our planet is dire, not only due to the impact on civilization but also because of the lack of accountability for these environmental transgressions.
