When Betsy first interviewed Darren, After Cloud™ was just beginning its journey. Fast forward to today, and the platform has earned the 2024 Innovator of the Year Award—a well-deserved honor for a service that’s transforming how we preserve memories and legacy.

Darren’s passion for creating After Cloud™ stemmed from a personal experience—after the passing of his mother-in-law, he discovered that many family photos were left without names or stories attached. That moment inspired him to build a solution where people could preserve not only photos but also voices, stories, advice, and moments that matter.

With over 25 years of experience in social care technology, Darren has built an ecosystem of apps under the After Cloud™ umbrella:

• Storyteller: Designed for use in children’s services.

• Journals: A space to document personal journeys.

• Heritage: Ideal for preserving family or brand legacies.

• Concours: A unique app that allows classic car owners to capture their vehicle’s history.

Each app is tailored to a specific use but shares the same mission—to preserve what matters most in a safe, accessible, and meaningful way.

Darren also shared how After Cloud™ has partnered with multiple organizations to extend its reach and impact over the past three years. One particularly moving feature is the ability to place a QR code on a gravesite, allowing loved ones to scan and hear the stories of those who’ve passed—bringing memory and legacy to life.

The conversation also touched on the “positive death” movement, which encourages open, honest discussions about end-of-life care, grief, and memory keeping. Betsy shared her own experience recording her late husband Matt’s final days and how comforting it is to revisit his voice and videos.
