Why is Constitution Day important today? Constitution Day marks the signing of the U.S. Constitution 238 years ago, when 39 delegates gathered at Independence Hall in Philadelphia to establish the framework of government we still live under. This day reminds us that civic responsibility — from voting to speaking up — matters just as much now as it did in 1787.

It’s also a favorite day for teachers, who use Constitution Day to spark conversations about history, rights, and the responsibilities of citizenship in their classrooms. By connecting the past to the present, teachers help students understand how the choices made in 1787 continue to shape our lives today.

And here’s a fun fact: nine of the 55 delegates were named William. So if you ever guessed “William” when naming a Founding Father, you’d already be 16% correct!

Happy Constitution Day! to all of 🇺🇸
