Betsy’s guests today are Lisa Cooper and Bremond Berry MacDougall, co-founders of Quite Literally Books, a women-owned heritage press dedicated to reprinting forgotten works by American women authors for new generations of readers.

Lisa and Bremond’s friendship began in seventh grade, where their shared love for libraries, reading, and researching laid the foundation for what would become Quite Literally Books. Their passion for literature and preserving women’s voices shines through this heartwarming and insightful conversation.

They explain how Quite Literally Books was born from their desire to revive stories that explore themes still relevant today—racism, parenting, working outside the home, and societal limitations. These books, once forgotten, now offer readers a chance to reflect on both the past and present.

Lisa and Bremond plan to publish six books a year and encourage readers to hold these books, discuss them in book clubs, and rediscover the joy of print. They hope men, too, will read these works and gain a deeper understanding of women’s experiences.

The first three titles now available are:
📖 The Home-Maker by Dorothy Canfield Fisher
📖 Plum Bun by Jessie Redmon Fauset
📖 The Pink House by Nella Gardner White

They also shared their thoughtful research and the process of choosing which titles to publish, including navigating copyright considerations.

Betsy received all three books and describes them as absolutely stunning! From their beautiful covers and elegant fonts to the smooth texture of the paper, these books are a pleasure to hold and read—especially for middle-aged readers. She especially loved the author bios printed inside the jackets, and thinks they make excellent gifts.
