Today’s guest is Douglas Bauer who is a Professor of Writing at Bennington College, Author and Writer of ” THE BECKONING WORLD, A NOVEL as well as several other books.
Douglas Bauer discusses the title of the book, the book cover, his writing process, and the 6 years of research that went into this novel. Doug and Betsy discussed the many characters of this novel, how love is very strong, how the world beckons us in different ways, the many relationships in this book, how the characters grow and how love lives on even when we lose someone, and we also discussed Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig who are also in this novel. This novel takes place from 1918 to 1948.
In Betsy’s opinion, Douglas Bauer has a way to reach into the reader’s soul and also the mind to feel for the characters, their challenges, and how love shines through! The reader will see how Earl Dunham went from escaping the coal mines, an abusive father to discovering true love and having a loving family.
We also see what dream Earl gives up for love! Betsy was deeply touched reading this novel and she enjoyed her conversation with Douglas Bauer.
