The folding of the NBA’s G-League Ignite makes me wonder about the real value of farm teams in professional sports today. These developmental teams were supposed to be a pipeline for young talent, but more and more, it seems like the results just aren’t there. Too many players aren’t growing the way teams hoped, and this leaves both the players and the organizations in an awkward spot. It also raises financial concerns—investing in players who don’t hit their potential can be costly. So, is it still worth it for pro leagues to support these farm systems, or have they outlived their usefulness?
