From a Mammogram to Biopsy in a blink of eye

Written by on November 4, 2019

Hi everyone.  I found this recording that I did in October 2018.  Having a mammogram is really very stressful.  Hundreds of women are going on a daily basis for the yearly mammogram.  No matter how you cut it is a very anxious time.  The mammogram exam can change a life in seconds.  For me, October 9, 2018, was a normal day for me to have my annual mammogram.  What happened after the mammogram exam turned my life upside down.   This was not what I had expected and this was an unexplored road for me and my life was on hold.  I had no idea what to expect other than knowing there were appointments set up for me.  I must have recorded this on the day of the biopsy.   To listen to this audio on my experience with the procedure of a Beast Biopsy  Click here to listen…

I don’t have to tell how hard it is to wait for a report that could change your life.  My friends were so supportive of the waiting game.  I remember that there is a restaurant we all enjoy called Aquitane at Legacy Place in Dedham MA.  My friend Lorie called and said meet at this restaurant for lunch.  I wasn’t sure I wanted to go but I decided that I would go.  It was the best thing, to sit with Lorie and Sheryl and laugh and for that moment life was normal.  What would we do without our friends, that support us and just being there for you?

I think it was a few weeks but not sure when the letter was received as I was just preoccupied with what would happen.  I remember holding the letter in my hands and thought, well this is it.  No matter what the diagnosis was, I would work through it.  I opened it and there it was the words no evidence of cancer.  There was more information but could not see them through the tears running down my face.  How many women wait for the letter and open it with some feeling of fear.  My heart goes out to all women that wait for that letter that will perhaps change their life.  You come to realize that life is a process and that there will be things that happen, but somehow you will emerge with courage, gratitude and most of all find you.

Because I am a Station Manager and Host at Passionate World Talk Radio, I realized I had the best opportunity to have to speak more about Breast Cancer. I have had some wonderful women on my radio show that have had a diagnosis of breast cancer.  One woman that I spoke with was Marion Behr.  Marion is an artist, author, and advocate. The book that Marion wrote is called Survinging Cancer: Our Voices & Choices. I highly recommend that this book be given to someone that has been diagnosed with cancer.  Marion is an amazing woman and grateful for the opportunity to have spoken to her. Marion was so inspiring and a wealth of courage.

What amazing women took this diagnosis and made a difference in so many ways? Some women wrote books, some started non-profits.  All the women I spoke with made a huge impact on the decision to make a difference to help many.  I am forever grateful to have the honor to have spoken to these wonderful women.

Now, this brings me to Holly Brown.  Holly had a form of cancer and needed to find some solutions to help her skin after the treatment.  In the process of the treatment, Holly thought that if this could help her, then many women could benefit from this treatment also.  Holly created a place to come and it is called Looking and Feeling Fab.  Holly and I have talked about creating more awareness to help others after treatment.  It is amazing how out of despair something miraculous happens.

My friend Holly Brown of Looking and Feeling Fab will be joining me in the new year for a very interesting series.  More information will be provided as the series moves forward.  If you are interested in hearing more, please send me your email address I will add you to the list for updating on dates and information for this series with Holly Brown. My email address is displayed on this blog.  Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you.

I had my yearly mammogram exam this October and the received the letter with results. There was a moment of fear but opened with the results staring at me with no evidence of cancer.
