Betsy Wurzel’s guest is – Meryl Frank an American Politician, Non-Profit Executive, Diplomat, and Author & Writer of “Unearthed”:Â A Lost Actress, A Forbidden Book, and a Search for Life in the Shadow of the Holocaust.
Meryl Frank spoke on why she wrote the book about her cousin, Franya Winter a celebrated actress in Yiddish Theater who came from a Hasidic Jewish family from Vilna. Franya helped support her family. Meryl discusses how her Aunt Mollie spoke about the family history but never mentioned how Franya died. Aunt Mollie gave Meryl a Yiddish book that contained the answer to Franya’s death but Aunt Mollie made her promise not to read it. Meryl kept that promise for many years!
Meryl discussed with Betsy how she is the “Memorial Candle” for her family’s history. Meryl spoke also about how we need to be vigilant about what is going on around us, how her book is about real people who were erased, and how family history can be healing! We must never forget the Holocaust and our family history!
