You’re loved when you’re born.
You’re loved when you die.
But who’s going to love you in-between?

Physician and author, Beverly Hurwitz, M.D., wants to know how states that deny
women access to safe abortion, plan to care for the all of the unwanted children that will
be born because of these restrictions. It’s estimated that 37% of pregnancies are
accidental and more than 13% of woman do not want their babies. *

Doctor Hurwitz was a pediatric intern, resident and fellow from 1981 through 1987, and she
specialized in the care of neurologically impaired children. Some of her profoundly
disabled patients had been born healthy, but suffered severe brain damage at the hands of
abusive adults.

Some of her patients had congenital rubella syndrome, and were blind, deaf, and unable
to walk, talk, or feed themselves. Before a vaccine became available, and before women had
the right to choose, a rubella epidemic in 1965 resulted in the birth of about 12,000
affected babies. The most severely affected survivors needed custodial care for life.
Will anti-vaccine people bring rubella back? Immunization against measles, mumps and
rubella (MMR) is given as a combined vaccine, not only to protect young children from these
three diseases, but to protect their fathers from sterility caused by mumps, and to
protect their pregnant mothers and potential siblings from the disastrous
prenatal effects of rubella.

Also in the 1960s, thousands of babies were born without arms and legs, due to the effects
of a sleeping pill called thalidomide. From the 1940s through the 70s, thousands of women
were given the miscarriage drug, DES, ultimately proven ineffective for preventing
miscarriage. It took until the 1970s to realize that the daughters of these DES treated
women would later develop vaginal cancer, diabetes and other serious health problems due
to their prenatal exposure.

What will be the next virus or drug, or environmental toxin to cripple another
generation, if humans don’t have the right to choose? What if we learn in the future that 5G
radiation causes major birth defects, or causes health problems and disability when the
exposed fetuses mature.

How will families, schools, and health and social service systems provide for increasing
numbers of unwanted and special needs children, due to forced pregnancy?

Who will take care of abandoned children?

How can we provide for neglected and abused children?

How can we prevent unwanted babies from being sold as commodities to the human
trafficking industry? They make great slaves or organ donors.

How will we afford services for children with disabilities, and how will we take care of the
disabled when they are aging and their parents are deceased?

What about the children whose births are never recorded, leaving them without
identity, nationality, and the rights of citizenship?

Every child has the right to be wanted, to be provided for, to be educated, to be a citizen,
and most importantly, to be loved.

Why would any culture choose to produce unwanted children who are at risk of growing up
angry and venting their anger against society in the form of violent crime and terrorism.?
