Celebrity worship was on trial in Johnny Depp-Amber Heard Trial
In spite of its irrelevance in comparison to a pandemic or a State of the Union address, a defamation trial featuring Johnny Depp got the press’s full and complete attention.
Still, we politicized it to death, treated it like a life-threatening event, or acted like our lives were at stake.
Celebrities (especially actors) are largely unimportant: they don’t pass laws or fix society. Yet we act like their lives are as important as a president’s. It’s mind-boggling.
Here’s hoping this trial is a tipping point; these people have not earned so much attention!
