Betsy Wurzel is starting a series on the beginning of her Journey as a Caregiver. It has been almost 20 years as a caregiver. Betsy first encounter as a caregiver was with her Mother-in-law Mary Sloan. Betsy did not know about Dementia/Alzheimer. Yes, Betsy knew that their was something wrong with her Mother-in-law Mary. Betsy kept telling her husband Matt to take his mother to the doctors. It seemed that he was in denial and would not listen. This put much strain on the marriage. Because of the stress Betsy started having health issues. Finally Mary Sloan was taken to the Doctors for help. Betsy had very little support and not aware of Facebook. A lot has happened on this diagnosis of Dementia/Alzheimer since Betsy started her journey 20 years ago.

Cannot stress enough on Education and talking to your family. Families do not appear to be helping in the care of the Parent, Spouse or Sister or Brother that has been diagnosed with Dementia/Alzheimer. The families need to step up to the plate and give support to the one that is caring for the loved one that has been diagnosed with Dementia/Alzheimer.
